Viewing Instagram highlights anonymously
Highlights behave differently from live Stories, and the difference works in a viewer's favour more than most people realise.
The 24-hour rule
A highlight only reports viewers while the underlying Story is inside its first 24 hours. Once past that, the poster sees no viewer list for it at all — even logged in, your view is not shown to them.
What that means in practice
Browsing an old highlight is already effectively invisible. Recently added highlights are the exception, because the original Story may still be inside its window.
Since you cannot tell how old a highlight item is from the outside, assuming it is trackable is the safer default.
Viewing them without a session
A logged-out viewer removes the ambiguity: no session, no possible entry, regardless of the item's age.
Highlights change quietly
People add and remove highlight items constantly, and a removed item leaves no trace. Watcholy captures highlights on its scheduled checks, so what was there stays available to you after it is pulled.
