What viewer apps request
Storage access, notifications, sometimes contacts and device identifiers — none of which are needed to display a public Story. The permission list is the product.
Why the browser is enough
Public Stories are images and video served over HTTP. A browser tab renders them exactly as well as a native app, and downloads work fine on both iOS and Android.

Where the work happens
Watcholy's scheduled checks run server-side, so there is no background process on your device to keep alive, and no battery cost.
